Alaska Passages Adventure Cruises

Welcome aboard the charter yacht Heron

Alaska yacht charter Heron. Small ship inside passage cruise. Alaska whale watching

The Heron is a well-equipped 65 foot motoryacht designed to carry her guests in classic comfort and safety. She has a spacious interior (photo). The main saloon is very large for a vessel her size and has plenty of comfortable seating with large picture windows on both sides . Imagine lounging on the couch by the woodstove, watching the scenery glide by, accompanied by the aroma of gourmet meals being prepared in the galley.

Sleeping accommodations for up to six guests are in in three guest staterooms (photo). Two of the staterooms have double beds (one with an optional second berth). The other guest stateroom has four single berths. There are two heads (marine toilets) and a shower.

Lots of deck space gives us plenty of room to launch an expedition (photo) in one of our shore boats or sea kayaks, land one of those giant halibut, enjoy a sunset dinner (photo) or just relax and watch the whales and glaciers (photo). The engine is on a v-drive system allowing it to be mounted far back in the stern. This gives us a very quiet ride compared to a lot of other vessels.

Your Hosts

Alaska Passages is owned and operated by Scott & Julie Hursey. They are both US Coast Guard licensed Captains and long-time residents of Petersburg in Southeast Alaska. This is their 14th season chartering with the Heron. Before starting Alaska Passages both were commercial fishermen. Scott started fishing in 1973 and Julie joined him in 1980. Their intimate knowledge of these waters allows them to expertly guide you safely to some extraordinary places rarely seen by most Alaska visitors.

Both Scott and Julie have educational backgrounds in geology and natural history, and have been certified as Alaska Naturalists by the University of Alaska Southeast.

Alaska Passages Adventure Cruises supports conservation efforts to save wilderness areas in Alaska for generations to come. We believe that our business shares the responsibility of stewardship over the beautiful wild lands of the Inside Passage. Guests can participate in our Dollar A Day Program where we pass through money collected to local environmental groups.

Here's what former guests have to say:

"My husband, his parents, and I spent a wonderful week aboard the M/V Heron with Scott and Julie. Their knowledge of Southeastern (Alaska) waters, the fish and the wildlife made the trip much more meaningful. Likewise, their obvious competence on both land and sea meant we never worried about our safety. Their respect for the environment was communicated thoroughly, yet our comfort level was much higher than expected-we don't eat that well at home!

My in-laws went on to other more conventional tourist experiences in other parts of Alaska, and reported nothing as rewarding as that week on the Heron. We can wholeheartedly recommend Scott and Julie's Alaska Passages to a wide range of ages and interests" Suze, Seattle
